In 2013, just under 900 people participated in Con Magee’s projects - an increase of 200 from the previous year.

Club chairman Seamus McMullan said of the award: “It reflects the hard work that has been going on over the last number of years, both in terms of health and fitness and also to try to increase participation in games itself.

“We have a very strong ethos among the community - we do enjoy a great support.

Seamus also explained that kids of playgroup age also benefit from the project, adding: “It doesn’t matter what sport you end up playing - we want to equip them with the basics such as co-ordination.”

Also short-listed: Northend United Youth FC (football); Ballymena Runners (athletics); Ballymena Academy (various).
