Seventh heaven for South Antrim Firsts

South Firsts 7 PSNI 0

South Firsts hosted the PSNI on Saturday knowing that this was a game they should win - and win comfortably - having already beaten the same opposition 7-0 earlier in the season.

And indeed, the Lisburn lads did just that, racking up another 7-0 victory.

Matthew Getty opened the scoring, deflecting home from close range after a somewhat miss-skewed cross from Simon Watt.

South’s lead was doubled soon after by school boy Patric Cochrane as he reversed home from the top of the D following some intricate link-up play down the right channel.

Cochrane bagged himself another a few minutes later; this time via a penalty stroke.

Paul Maguire notched up his side’s 4th goal of the afternoon - and his 15th of the season - when he tapped in from close range just before the break.

After the half-time interval, South squandered their early chances to extend the lead yet further - particularly from short corners.

Indeed it wasn’t until Nathan Gamble hit the net with 15 minutes to go, that South got their fifth goal of the afternoon.

In the move of the game, Gamble received the ball wide left before driving across the top of the circle and dispatching home with conviction.

Simon Watt got goal number six for the hosts, tapping home from less than a yard out after Paul Maguire had lifted the ball over the advancing keeper.

And the rout was completed when Chris Henry deflected in a reverse stick cross from Patric Cochrane with only a couple of minutes remaining.

That result sees South leapfrog Bangor to sit nicely perched at the summit of the Senior 1 table.

This Saturday, however, sees the two sides pitted against each other in what should be a fairly evenly matched battle. Push back is 2.30pm at Aurora Leisure Centre.
