RUGBY: Roesiders’ seconds battle hard but just come up short

With the Limavady First XV not playing at the weekend, the focus was on the Roesiders Second XV who travelled to Portadown to take on the Armagh club’s third string and narrowly lost 26-22.

Limavady suffered in the first 20 minutes and appeared to lack cohesion with the Portadown men taking full advantage by running in four tries against their out of sorts visitors.

This spell gave the home side a 26-0 lead but eventually the visitors found their feet and for the final 20 minutes of the first half, Limavady kept Portadown pinned into their own half but were unfortunately unable to add to cross the line.

To their credit Limavady dominated the remainder of the game and ran in four tries themselves, only one of which was converted to leave the visitors an agonising four points short. A spirited comeback though ensured a well deserved two bonus points.
