Do you remember when...Coal price was hot topic for council

Carrick council was to step in to keep the price of coal to a minimum for local customers.

Councillor Jim Strange called for negotiations to take place with the coal importer at Carrick Harbour.

Commenting on a proposed price hike to £10 per tonne, Cllr Strange said he would be urging the council to set up talks immediately.He said that the spiralling cost was particularly worrying for the elderly and unemployed in the community.

“I am sure that as a council, we will do all in our power, to alleviate the financial pressure this will place on many of our ratepayers.”

He suggested that one possibility to be considered by council would be a review of harbour charges.
