McCormick claims the MX2 Ulster Championship title

East Antrim’s Glenn McCormick claimed the MX2 Ulster Championship, adding to his Irish title, at the rearranged final round of the competition at Desertmartin MX Park.

Qualifying went well and the teenager set the quickest time in MX2.

In his first race there was drama at turn two on the opening lap when he was caught in a pile-up. Because there were so many bikes involved, he couldn’t get his Watt Motorcycles / Agnew recovery KTM gathered up and started a quickly as he would have liked.

When he did get going again he set fastest lap to close on the leaders and had made it into second when he collided with a MX1 rider and went down again. This time, however, he wasted no time in getting going again to retake second in the MX2 class.

In race two the Gleno lad made an average start but soon made his way to front of MX2 and stayed there to the flag, extending his points advantage to 20 with one race remaining.

After another average start, he made his way quickly to the front in race three and controlled his lead to the chequered flag to take the title in style.

He said: “I’m so happy to win the Ulster championship, and to win it by taking the overall on the day is brilliant. I set out at start of the year to try to win both the Irish and Ulster MX2 championships and I did it. A big thank you everyone who helped to make it all happen.”
