Carrick trio back on track

Carrick riders Glenn Irwin, Alastair Seeley and Andrew Irwin return to action at round three of the British Championship this weekend.

Norfolk’s ultra-fast three-mile Snetterton circuit will play host to the locals who are back on the track in their respective classes after a few weeks of a break.

Glenn Irwin and Seeley ride in the Motorpoint Supersport class in which Irwin lies second, 13 points behind leader Billy McConnell.

The Gearlink Kawasaki rider is nursing an ankle injury but still intends to compete.

“I didn’t even do it racing. I was playing a charity football match when it happened but I’m not going to let something like this stop me,” Irwin told the Times.

“I will get treatment right up until the race and hopefully it will not hamper me too much. The championship is going so well and the team are right behind me so I will race at Snetterton. There’s too much at stake not to.”

Mar-Train Yamaha’s Seeley currently occupies third in the series, two points behind Irwin, and will be determined to close the gap on the leaders. Although battered and bruised after the NW200, he is now fully recovered and raring to go.

Jordanstown’s Andy Reid leads the Pirelli National Superstock 600 series on the FFX Yamaha after a brilliant performance at Donington. In the same class Andrew Irwin will be hoping to better his 12th place at Donington on the MWR Kawasaki.

Nikki Coates makes a welcome return to the Pirelli 1000 Superstock class after crashing out at Brands Hatch.

“I broke a rib and punctured a lung in the crash but I am fully fit again and hope to get back on the pace at Snetterton,” said the Motobreakers Kawasaki rider.
