The College’s Sports Captains and their deputies, along with A Level Physical Education students, have been helping with Year 7 PE and Health Awareness at St John’s Primary School Coleraine as part of their role.

The Flames programme is part of an initiative by the British Heart Foundation and London 2012 legacy to get young people physically active for 60 minutes per day.

The programme will culminate in a Flames Festival in Coleraine Leisure Centre before Easter, alongside groups based in Coleraine College, St Joseph’s College and North Coast Integrated College, and involving the Year 7 pupils with which all the groups have been working.

Head of PE Mrs M McCullough commented that this part of the PE department mentoring scheme and has proved very useful for Year 14 pupils who are considering teaching as a profession, adding that the Loreto students involved were deriving tremendous enjoyment and satisfaction from the programme.
