London calling for Seapark’s Barclay

It was a case of London calling for Seapark’s Tony Barclay as he ran the Lloyd parkrun in Croydon on Saturday, June 7. The course is run on woodland tracks and Barclay put in a sterling performance, crossing the line in 36:46.

Next, and a little closer to home, 12 Seapark AC athletes competed in the 26extreme Mourneway Marathon challenge on Saturday with members covering distances ranging from 5k to marathon.

Running the 10k, Philip Poag put in a fantastic performance to finish his first trail event in 59:54, and Alison Welsh ran a strong race to cross the line in 1:02:19

In the half-marathon event the results were as follows: Richard Heatherington, 2:02:36; Charlie McCormick 2:04:07; Mark Welsh 2:18:51; Angela McCormick 2:47:21 (half-marathon debut); Karen Poag 2:47:24; Karen Waring 2:47:24 and Neil Harper 2:51:48.

Taking on the full marathon challenge were Gary Connolly, Gillian Cordner and Bobbie Irvine. The three runners completed the course together, supporting Cordner who had been ill in the run-up to the event. All three crossed the line in 5:29:13.

Seapark AC meets Tuesday and Thursday at 7 pm at Carrickfergus Cricket Club, Middle Road, Carrickfergus.
