Hilden come back to win as they rally in style

HILDEN were heading for defeat and possibly only two points at home to Knock in Private Greens Senior Three, but they came back and Jonathan McMullan’s rink got three at the last end with the overall scores level.

Hilden were hoping to cash in on seven points in midweek, but at the halfway stage they were down on two rinks and well down overall, but they rallied well to keep their promotion hopes alive.

A four and a three helped Jonathan McMullan to a 12-9 lead at the tenth and he drew ahead over the following ends to lead 25-12 with an end left on his rink and in the match. Hilden lifted a four which gave them a three shots win overall and 17 for McMullan.

Down 1-16 at 12 ends Maurice Kirkwood lifted a five to start a revival which ended with Hilden losing by seven shots.

A four and a three enabled Stephen Kirkwood to lead 12-7 at the tenth and 15-8 at 14 ends and Hilden maintained the advantage to win by nine shots.

Down 4-16 at the tenth Howard McMullan lifted three at 12 ends but was 7-18 down and Hilden lost by 16 shots.

Hilden were without, Maurice, Robert and Stephen Kirkwood following the death of their mother and grandmother, Agnes Kirkwood, but they still took seven points from a 31.75 shots home win over Albert Foundry in Private Greens Senior Three.

This was the first game of the second half of the League programme and it kept Hilden on course for promotion with Shorts appearing to be their only serious challengers and two teams go up.

Two threes helped Richard Keag to a 15-7 lead at 11 ends, but he slipped to 15-13 at 16 ends. Hilden came back with two threes and two doubles and though dropping a three at the last end still won by nine shots.
