The victory is the first time in 15 years that Leaney Primary School will have their named etched unto the coveted trophy.

The big day took place on 25th March at Ballysally when they faced strong opposition against St. John’s Primary School, Coleraine in the semi final. The Leaney team were well drilled going into this game and it showed with some great skills on display. There were goal scoring talents on display that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Pemier league as the boys ensured they would have a place in the final with a convincing 6-1 scoreline. Leaney then played the very talented Irish Society primary School.

Luke Boreland was more than a match for Joe Hart in nets as he made several fantatsic saves which could easily have changed the outcome of the game. The Leaney defence which included Logan McIntyre, Adam Park and Noah Black showed the usual strength and determination as they have done throughout the year.

Andy Stinson (Captain), Matthew Drain and Jordan Gage worked tirelessly in midfield causing lots of problems for the Irish Society attack.

Rhys Keys and Jake Wallace looked like the Liverpool attack and they put fear into the Irish Society defence every time they were on the ball.

The substitues Joshua Coulter, Kurtis Mcneil and Cameron Sainty encouraged the team throughout the game and tried their best to keep the team’s morale up and played their part when called upon.

Next up was a win against Hazlett followed by another against Damhead.

This took Leaney straight to the semi finals where they came up against the very tough St. Malachy’s.

The girls tried their best but sadly lost this round. St. Malachy’s went on to win the overall tournament with Leaney coming out a very creditable third out of ten teams. Leaney primary School is very proud of the eight girls who took part.
