Great day for the town of Portrush

The sun shone for the re-opening of Portrush Yacht Club on Saturday, exactly a year after the bulldozers moved onto the Harbour site to begin the demolition.

It’s been a year that has saw an extensive refurbishment and improvement programme.

The refurbishment was greeted with great delight within the club.

“This is a great day for Portrush Yacht Club and the town of Portrush,” said the Commodore, Robin Cardwell.

“We are able to offer extensive training facilities for our members who want to get involved in diving, surfing, boating, fishing and powerboating.

“The changing rooms are superb and the training room is fully equipped to facilitate classroom based training.

“In fact our Powerboating section were able to make full use of all facilities at the end of September to run a very successful course.

“We are looking forward to developing an extensive programme for the Spring, Summer 2015.

“I am delighted to welcome Dame Mary Peters one of Northern Irelands Sporting icons to oficially open our club.”

The Commodore gave Dame Mary a tour of the facilities and thanked everyone who had made the refurbishment possible, after which he presented personal gifts to treasurer Nigel Lynch and Hon Secretary Brian Page in recognition of their unstinting work behind the scenes.

The Committee would also like to thank Coleraine Borough Council, and Dankse Bank for all their support.
