Martin recoversto finish top

Top of the pile this week was Martin McKinstry with 33 pts off 10. Having dropped four shots over the first five holes, he toured the rest of the course in just two over to claim his glory from a pair of other players on the back 9.

Francis Tallon had early bogeys at the second and third holes, but thanks to birdies at the sixth and tenth he returned a level par score to lift the low section with 31 pts off 3. He closed 2013 in disappointing fashion as he had no fewer than 13 NRs in his last five rounds of the year, but whatever he got for Christmas appears to have solved the problem and he hasn’t had one since.

Aidan Thornbury continues to play great golf and he took second place in the section with 31 points off 7, despite failing to score at the supposedly easy 10th.

Third in the section went to Malachi McConville with 30 points off five. He will be disappointed with yet another bogey at the 17th.

Dominic Hatchell is a player we can expect to read a lot about this year. He is right back to playing his best again and added yet another prize to his bulging collection when he took the middle section with 32 points off 8. He was just one over coming home to win over that stretch.

Barry Creaney began in some style with birdies at the second and third and was level on the 14th tee only to drop four shots over the next three holes and lose out on the back 9.

Sean Scullion took third place with 31 pts off 10.

Tony and Peter Gordon are frequent are their visits to the podium. This time it was Tony’s chance to shine as he lifted the high section with 33 pts off 17.

Roy Bratchie also missed out on the top prize on the back 9 and had to settle for second in the section.

Eugene McAtamney must still be wondering how he ran up two double bogeys in the last three holes because until that point he was confidently marching to his best score in some time. The last minute hiccups meant he had to settle for third in the section with 32 pts off 19.

Ciaran Seeley took the gross prize with 26 gross.

Scoring was high in the Sunday Sweep. The winner was Graham Ewart with 43 pts, even with no score at the easy fourth hole but ten x 3 pointers showed some excellent golf. No fewer than five competitors had 40 pts, young Adam McCleary taking the second place with a strong last six. Consistent players Noel Robinson and Canice McGivern taking the third andfourth place.

The ladies prize was won by another young star Annabel Wilson who covered the course in 4 over par for 37 pts off her 5 h/ cap.

Timmy Cummins 35 gross took the gross prize.

That’s now 2 in a row, we wonder can he match Gary Clarke’s 7 in a row.
