Kelly hits hole in one

REDCASTLE Lady Captain Una McGeough thanked all those who played and supported their very worthwile Charity Open in Aid of Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust and she also thanked the mens branch of Redcastle for their support, on Monday.

Claiming first prize after a break of tie finish was Nuala McQuaid (25) after she finished with 37 points. Second was City of Derry member Pat Coull (19) after she too finished with 37 points and a point further adrift in third spot was Gill Eakin (33).

The gross winner was Hazel Browne (20) after she scored 17 gross points and Buncrana member Moya O'Doherty (27) with 35 points won the visitors prize.

The front nine went to Fidelma Doherty (31) after she scored 19 points, Rosie Agnew (22) who also scored 19 points won the back nine. In the mens nine hole competition Roy Kelly (19) with 20 points finished first after a BOT finish, Billy Harkin (10) was second.

Lorna Thompson hit the longest drive and Fidelma Doherty was nearest the pin.

Next week's competition, which will take place on Monday, is the Maureen Barr Memorial competition and draw times are 10am, 5pm and 5.45pm. While on Monday, June 14 the Ladies Open sponsor by Carlton Redcastle Hotel, takes centre stage. A time-sheet will be in operation. While the annual Maybrook Adult Training Centre Open at Redcastle had a runaway winner last weekend, with Stephen Kelly, from the North-West, carding a fantastic score of 44 points.

Second after a BOT finish was Damien Tracey after he finished with 40 points and Martin Harkin also with 40 points was third; the gross winner was Mark Wilson after he scored 27 gross points.

The front nine was claimed by Tommy McCauley after he scored 21 points and Kelvin Shields won the back nine after another BOT finish when he scored 22 points.

The Ladies competition was won by Mary McArthur who defeated Jill Eakin on 37 points.

Congratulations to Redcastle Present, Mr. Bernard Kelly, who carded a superb 'hole in one' at the par three "Ruin." Playing a nine iron to the top of the hill, Kelly ran the ball 40 feet into the hole.

This week's competition is a club confined to be played from Friday to Sunday.
