George lands first silverware of Pool Festival

George McCullough landed the first silverware of the Ballymena Festival of Pool when he won the individual championship.

The Fairhill Hustlers player (pictured inset, below) clinched the title for the first time by beating Ryan Foster 5-4 in a thrilling final.

A total of 45 players has set out in pursuit of the sought-after accolade, in a super start to the Festival, which continues this week.

In the final, Towers raced into a 3-0 lead with David O’Neill and Drew Sloan winning in straight frames over Rick McMaster and David Armstrong. Shane Moody defeated Alan Armstrong by a 2-1 scoreline.

Back came the Michelin Masters Brian Hanna beat Dean Greer 2-1 after losing the first frame and Chris Penny also won 2-1 over K.D.Crabbe and Chris also had lost the first frame. In the sixth game Jimmy Knowles had a hard fought win over James Millar by a 2-1 scoreline to leave the match score at 3-3.

This resulted in a play off and Drew Sloan and David Armstrong were to feature, Drew managed to come out on top by a 2-0 scoreline for the Towers Tavern and claim a first ever Cup victory for the team.

Semi-finals: Diamond Dazzlers 4 v 2 Fairhill Hustlers; Mighty Moat 4 v 2 Coach.

Final: Diamond Dazzlers 4 v 0 Mighty Moat.

Unlike the Cup final the Shield final was a very one sided affair but it also resulted in a first ever trophy in the League for the Diamond Dazzlers.

Adrian Rourke started it all off for the Diamond followed by wins from Declan Heggarty, Brendan O’Mullan and Ian Boal.
