Under 16s face the Welsh dragon

Northern Ireland Under 16 Manager Desi Curry knows that his side faces a formidable task when they take on Wales at the Ballymena Showgrounds tonight, Friday 23 November, kick off 7.35pm.

There is much to play for as a win for the home team would take them to the top of the table and give them a chance of sharing the Sky Sports Victory Shield with England.

“I know that Ossian Roberts, the Welsh Manager, believes that this is one of the best sides he has managed,” said Curry.

“They were unfortunate to lose 2-0 to Scotland and 1-0 to England. Obviously England are firm favourites to retain the Victory Shield but I haven’t given up hope of Northern Ireland collecting the title. The boys are in fine spirits after an excellent showing in Poland last week. To draw with a Polish side which had defeated Germany, Scotland and Wales was a great achievement. We will need to match the Welsh in fighting spirit and I hope that the crowd will get behind the team from the start,” added the Manager.

The game is being televised live by Sky TV and the Northern Ireland Schools’ Football Association is offering free entrance to any school or youth group wishing to attend the game.
