U10s get the better of North Belfast

Distillery U10s continued their season on Saturday with two games in the Belfast GDP.

First up was a very good North Belfast side and the wee Whites knew would need to be on top of their game to compete against strong opponent.

Calum Ashby opened the scoring early on with a superb strike from distance and although they produced some excellent football and created numerous chances they couldn’t add the their tally before the break.

Period two saw North Belfast enjoy their best phase of the game and they pulled a goal back after a moments hesitancy in the whites defence.

Ben Coulter quickly fed left winger Conall Cunningham who beat his marker before playing the ball inside to Ross White, the big centre forward still had a lot to do put produced a delightful lob which had the keeper clutching at thin air before nestling in the back of the net.

Bradley Ingram’s pace and power were the perfect foil to the delightful football the boys were playing and he got himself a couple of goals by making intelligent forward runs, but the abiding memory of Bradley in this game is him charging back almost 40 yards to make a crunching last ditch tackle to save what looked like an almost certain goal.

There was then a bit of controversy as Jake ran onto a loose ball and struck an howitzer of a shot which hit the underside of the bar, the ball bounced down and looked to most observers behind the goal that it had crossed the line but play went on and Jake was denied what would have been a superb goal.

North Belfast completed the scoring when their livewire striker raced through and finished smartly. A mention must go to Spencer Maxwell who defended superbly throughout indeed his defensive positional sense was first class and goalkeeper Lewis Doyle whose distribution continually improved as the game went on.
