Tobermore out of all Cup competitions

Cliftonville Olympic 3- 1 Tobermore Utd (AET) TOBERMORE put on a poor show against a young ,skillful Cliftonville Olympic at Solitude last Saturday evening with the Belfast outfit deservedly progressing in the cup.

In a fairly even first half both sides created and missed plenty of chances and Sammy Foster made a great save from the penalty spot on the 20 minute mark when, much to his annoyance, he was adjudged to have brought down the opposing centre forward.

Tobermore went in at half time one up when an Olympic defender got on the end of a Stuart Millar cross and fired the ball past his keeper for an own-goal.

Olympic were the better side in the second half and got a deserved equalizer on 63 minutes but neither side could add to the score line so it went to extra time and as the added time went by Olympic always looked the more likely team to score and they did so twice near the end of the second period of extra time albeit one from another disputed penalty.

Tobermore are now out of all cup competitions and because of this they are likely to have many free Saturdays and, unless they can rearrange some games, their next scheduled game is away to Ballinamallard on February 4th.

Tobermore Mini Soccer sessions continue this Saturday in Maghera Recreation Centre, from 10.00 am until 11am . Players as usual should come along kitted out ready to play with shin guards and trainers essential (not football boots).

The fun sessions are supervised by IFA accredited coaches and are open to all boys and girls of primary school age.
