Hide AdPat McGibbon, who returned to the club as physio this season, has been handed the interim role until the summer.
Matthew Tipton, the former Ports striker who recently retired as a player, has also confirmed his desire for the position.
Another name linked with the role is Portadown-born Niall Currie, who can boast a double-figure haul of silverware at Loughgall and Ards. However, sources have confirmed Currie did not apply, possibly due to his commitment to Ards’ current Championship One title bid.
