Disappointment as South Ladies can’t get an equaliser

South Antrim Ladies 1XI had a hopeful start on Saturday against Ballynahinch with various attacks in the circle within the first five minutes with Lauren Boomer and Alannah Richardson narrowly missing an opportunity for a goal.

As the first half moved on, an unfortunate counter attack by the opposition presented the South Ladies with a defensive penalty corner against them, meaning that they were 1-0 down entering the second half.

In the second half the ladies fought to keep possession of the ball and with some amazing saves from goalie Heather Neil, they managed to stop Ballynahinch from scoring.

With some lovely play from Alex Dugan and Abbie Trimble down the right hand side of the pitch, the girls created opportunities and were unlucky not to get a goal in.

Unfortunately the girls couldn’t get the equaliser they needed and the score remained 1-0 to Ballynahinch.

Player of the match went to Allison Marsden for her great defensive work.

Amy Wright, continuing her fine form this season, took the ball to the Mossley defence and only some good defending denied her a goal after a clear shot from the edge of the circle.

Mossley responded but some solid defending from Nicole Robinson and Wendy Li ensured Mossey were unable to get into the South circle.

South continued to attack with Carly Niblock making an excellent run down the right and backed up by Jill Holley in midfield managed to find Amy Wright in front of the Mossley keeper.

After a goalkeeper rebound Amy found the net for the first goal.

Mossley responded well but a great tackle from the South sweeper put the ball back into a South attack and a fine pass from Amy Wright gave Laura McConnell the opportunity to score her first goal.

Amy Wright continued to put pressure on the South defence and after some fine running from Carly was again rewarded when a goal mouth scramble put the ball in the back of the Mossley net.

With the South midfield continuing to work hard with Niamh Doyle making her debut and Anna Dornan returning to hockey after a break the South team continued to pressure.

Laura McC was again rewarded for her efforts down the left flank by a well taken goal slipping the ball past the Mossley keeper.
