Lisburn ready for 20/20 final, as locals seek their first silverware since 2008

Lisburn play in their first domestic final since 2008 this Friday when they meet North Down in the 20/20 play off at The Lawn, Waringstown.

Their last success in local cricket was also in the 20/20 mode when they defeated Instonians at Shaws Bridge five seasons ago. On that occasion the then Lisburn professional Gerry Strydom destroyed the Inst attack to see Lisburn to a comfortable victory.

The match this Friday is sure to be a much closer affair with North Down being narrow favourites to take the trophy.

Lisburn won their semi final game against Civil Service in the Park and so travel to The Lawn hopefully to bring their determined captain, Davey Simpson his first piece of silverware.

As always, Lisburn will be trusting to their ace performer Craig Ervine for yet more runs. The Zimbabwean has been having a superb run of scores lately. 142 against Lurgan, 84 at Waringstown, 87 against CIYMS, 61 in the semi final of the 20/20 against CSNI and 75 at Comber last weekend against Friday’s opponents North Down.

However, Ervine needs support and it should come from the innovative Darryl Brown or the potentially ‘big hitting’ of Nathan Waller. With the weather set fair, a large support for both sides is expected with action beginning at 6pm.
