Ballinderry secure fourth Charity Cup win

Ballinderry have won the Lisburn Zone Charity Cup for the fourth time in its five years existence.

Their latest victory came when they beat Eglantine by ten shots after conceding 14 handicap points in the final at St Paul’s Parish Hall last Tuesday night.

There was an amazing start when Eddie Marsden picked up an eight at the second end, but John McCandless responded with a seven next end and led 11-9 at six ends.

Eglantine were 12-9 ahead with two ends left when Ballinderry finished with three, one to snatch victory by one solitary shot.

On the other mat, Vincent Bryans started with a three but Keith Morrison responded with an impressive three, one, three, one, four to lead 12-3 at the sixth.

Eglantine came back with two singles but Ballinderry finished with one, two to win by ten shots. That helped their cause although they were still three shots down at the interval.

George McLernon opened with two singles, but Raymond Stubbs responded with a six and by six ends was 9-3 ahead.

Eglantine added another single, but Ballinderry finished with one, three, one to make certain of their latest overall victory by ten shots. It keeps up their impressive record in the competition.

Melvyn McQuillan started with two singles but a four helped Paul Reid to a 6-3 lead at the sixth.

Eglantine came back with one, two, one to lead 7-6 with an end left but Ballinderry lifted a last end four to win by three shots.
