Acorns Athletics Club continue their growth

Various members opted for the MUSA Parkrun on Saturday as an opportunity to test their speed and fitness over the short 5k distance.

Among those taking part were Irwin Speirs, Alan Shaw, Bliadhan Glass, Cathaoir Purvis and newcomer Darrell McKee.

Bliadhan and Darrell had a closely fought battle to finish in the top 3, with Alan and Roger not far behind.

Cathaoir Purvis continues to develop well over the short distance, whilst Irwin Speirs is steadily progressing again following a recent injury.

The runners had the chance to show some new kit with the official club colours and logo, which is now available to order at the club training sessions.

Results:- 2nd Bliadhan Glass 17.31; 3rd Darrell McKee 17.37; 5th Alan Shaw 19.45; 6th Roger McLean 20.17; 8th Cathaoir Purvis 21.33; 9th Niall Hassan 21.40; 25th Irwin Speirs 25.42.

Purple Ladies 5k- Edel McGuckin and Rosemary Hargan took part in this “Springwell” organised all ladies event in Ballymoney on Wednesday evening.

Rosemary has been making a welcomed comeback following a period out with injury! The 2 ladies ran the race together and crossed the line in 27:34 and 27:37 respectively. Well done to you both!

John Knocker was in action at the Munich Half Marathon last weekend and had a great race finishing 4th in the M55 category and a superb time of 1:46.

Training takes place in Magherafelt at Meadow Bank Sports Arena running track on a Monday at 6.45pm, and a Wednesday at 7.30pm.

Cookstown training takes place at MUSA on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30pm.
