Update: Man killed in collision on Moneymore to Cookstown dual carriageway

A man has been killed in a serious road traffic collision on the Cookstown to Moneymore dual carriageway.

It is understood the victim was middle-aged and was driving a vintage tractor at the time of the crash, which also involved a car.

Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the scene of the incident just before 10am, when the road was closed to traffic just after the turn off for Lough Fea towards Moneymore.

The race was to take place over two days, finishing on Saturday, July 18.

It is thought the crash victim, is a member of the vintage club.

Over the years the organisation has raised almost £500k for charity, with this year’s proceeds due to go to Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

Mid Ulster councillor, Trevor Wilson has extended his sympathies to the family.

“This is absolutley devastating news this morning,” he said.

“I know the family of this man, and my thoughts and prayers are with them at this terrible time.”
