The events manager at a Lurgan public house admitted last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court allowing underage customers into a nightclub.

He was also fined £120 for permitting a person who was under 18 to consume alcohol on licensed premises.

The court heard that police carried out an ongoing operation on the Fabric nightclub at the Manhattan Bar in Lurgan.

They discovered young people aged 16 and 17 had been at the nightclub. There was one 17 year girl who was so intoxicated she had to be taken to hospital.

Hughes was the events manager at the nightclub which targeted the 18-24 age range.

He thought he could do nothing more to prevent youths being on the premises.

A solicitor for the defendant said that he accepted culpability.

He added that four or five bouncers had been hired to check identification.

The solicitor said Hughes would have been continually busy on these nights and would have been serving behind the bar at certain times.

Some of the young people carried false identification.
