Hay welcomes submissionof NW1 planning revision

North West One will involve a £45m investment and yield 509 sustainable jobs if, as hoped, the project is completed in 2017. It will include a ten-screen cinema, gymnasium, drive-through and health care facilities.

Mr Hay said: “I have met with the developer on a number of occasions during the community consultation process and I am confident it will become a reality. Much work has been carried out and the new proposal is well considered, which has attracted interest from major brands and operators. I am aware that negotiations are at an advanced stage. I have studied the plans and engaged with local residents and groups about the proposed development over the past year.

“The job creation and economic boost that this investment will bring will be significant not only for the Waterside but for the city and the North West as a whole.

“I understand that upon receipt of planning permission work can start soon. Local companies have already been engaged to maintain the site which is a positive indication of intent.”

Last week the developers reduced the size of the proposed new housing development from 79 homes to 73. The seventy-three homes will consist of 66 semi-detached and seven detached dwellings.

A large multidisciplinary development team led by the administrator, John Hansen from KPMG is now taking the project forward after the erstwhile developer GSB Guernsey Trading Ltd was placed in administration. Ulster Bank is also a constituent member of the team.

Mr Hay said: “The addition of up to 70 private houses on the site also has to be welcomed. Quality, affordable housing is key to the mixed use nature of this scheme and will contribute to the retail and leisure offer.”
