Tributes paid to lifelong Comrades supporter, George Hanna

Speaking to the Times, club chariman, Trevor McCann said: “George was a great member of Ballyclare Comrades and a very loyal supporter of the team. He had a long association with the Comrades and was always very good to the club.

“He was very hands-on and helped with maintenance around Dixon Park. My thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Cllr David Arthurs sent his sympathies to George’s family and friends. He said: “George was an avid supporter of the club. He supported the team in a number of ways including helping out around the ground.

“He lived up near Corr’s Corner and I remember the supporters bus picking him up many times from the Ballyrobert Road. When he wasn’t at games, he was missed. He had an infectious character and he loved Ballyclare Comrades.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

These sentiments were echoed by his party colleague, Cllr Vera McWilliam. Mrs McWilliam knew George for many years. She said: “He was a top salesman at Campbell Yarns at Mossley Mill and I met him through this. He was also a very faithful member of the Institute of Export.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.”
