Witness appeal after elderly woman is almost knocked down on town crossing

Cookstown police are appealing for witnesses to an incident of careless driving on the pedestrian crossing in the town centre which left an elderly woman "badly shaken."

They say the woman was crossing William Street when she was almost struck by a jeep at 1.15pm on Sunday.

In a social media post, police said: "The vehicle in question was a blue jeep / 4 x 4, vehicle registration unknown at this time.

"Witnesses assisted the lady at the time and we are appealing for them to come forward with details of the vehicle registration or even a partial registration number.

"We wish to remind drivers of their responsibilities to stop at pedestrian crossings, as this is not the first incident at this crossing."
