The pirates are coming to Antrim's Lough Shore

AHOY Me Hearties! For a fantastic family fun day out by the water's edge, Antrim Lough Shore Park is the place to be on Saturday, June 12 from 12 Noon - 5pm when the pirates will be taking to their boats and racing each other up and down the Six Mile Water River.

The Pirate Boat Race features a spectacular river race with teams competing in replica pirate boats. Each team will race against the clock and winners will be decided in a knockout. A grand finale will decide the Antrim Pirate Champions. Spectators can dress up as pirates and explore the pirate encampment and prizes will be awarded for the best dressed pirates at 2pm! There will also be a pirate treasure hunt taking place throughout the event and you can search for ‘loot’ along Captain Jack’s Treasure Trail at the Lough Shore Park, with a chance to win some fantastic prizes!

Karen Steele, Visitor Servicing Officer with Antrim Borough Council, shared her enthusiasm for the event, she said: “The Lough Shore Park will be a hive of activity on June 12 and we promise there will be something for everyone. As well as the river race, there will be a range of entertainment for all the family including a funfair, boat trips, children’s entertainment and a chance to meet feathered friends from World of Owls and animals from Ark Open Farm.”

Karen added: “The Pirate Boat Race is in aid of Lough Neagh Rescue, which is the first response, search and rescue Lifeboat Service committed to preserving and saving life on Lough Neagh and its associated waters. One of the highlights of the event will be around 3pm when an exciting live rescue demonstration, including a passenger vessel, will take place on Lough Neagh. Local support is vital to this event and Lough Neagh Rescue staff will be onsite all day to offer information on their services. The public will also be able to make donations to Lough Neagh Rescue on the day. This is one of the biggest events in their fundraising calendar and we are pleased to be supporting it.”

Limited disabled parking will be available at the Lough Shore Park and a free bus service will be running regularly from the overflow carpark at NEELB’s Board Centre opposite Antrim Forum on the Lough Road.
