Support flood appeal urges Dean of Derry

The Dean of Derry, Very Rev Dr William Morton, has appealed to the community of Londonderry to get behind the Flood Appeal launched by the Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of Ireland.

Urging support, the Dean said: “The Churchwardens, myself and the Select Vestry, in bringing this appeal to the attention of parishioners, are aware of the gravity of the loss experienced by those whose homes and businesses have been flooded, while acknowledging the fact that the Christmas response to the Bishop’s Appeal has just taken place.

“I am urging people who can afford to help to contribute to the Flood Appeal wither online at www.ireland.anglican.org/flood, or alternatively, to send either Sterling or Euro in the form of a cheque to Bishops’ Flood Appeal, The Representative Church Body, Church of Ireland House, Church Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6, Ireland, or can be emailed to [email protected].

“Further to this, I am delighted to announce that anyone who has suffered as a result of the flooding is eligible to apply for grant aid,” the Dean said.

“Please speak with myself or Canon John Merrick to obtain an application form.”

Parishes across the Diocese are also at liberty to hold special collections at Sunday services over the next two weeks for those who would like to contribute.

The appeal is in direct response to those in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland who have suffered hardship through the loss of food, shelter, warmth and clothing through flooding and water damage.
