Manager Tracy Wallace reported growth ‘far in excess of expectations’ at Slemish n tha Braid Credit Union at the end of the first financial year in their new home.

Slemish n tha Braid opened the doors of their new office in Harryville just over a year ago, in August 2015, after renovating part of the former Raglan Bar on Queen Street in a £350,000 investment in the Ballymena South area.

During that period their ‘on street’ presence and increased opening hours have resulted in targets which they had set for the first six months being exceeded.

And it was revealed that as they enter their new financial year they will be welcoming two other local credit unions under the Slemish n tha Braid umbrella.

Tracy Wallace said: “Our membership has grown by over 400 people and we are now currently £150,000 ahead of target with respect to members’ savings, which just confirms the level of trust our members have in us.

“Also, in the new financial year we will be welcoming both Maine Credit Union in Randalstown, and Loughill Credit Union in Cloughmills into the Slemish n tha Braid Credit Union brand. Services in both these credit unions will continue as normal and we will soon be writing to all members to update them on these developments.”

Other highlights of the year included being nominated for the 2nd year running for the national Social Enterprise of the Year awardand, at a local level, for the Ballymena Chamber of Commerce Awards.

“We’ve also been nominated in the ‘Business Contribution to the Community’ category for the Ballymena Community Cluster awards.

“All awards ceremonies are coming up in the next few weeks so whether we win or not it’s just fantastic to even have been nominated, and the recognition of all the effort made has given a real boost to the Slemish n tha Braid team. We have many other exciting projects in the pipeline for this incoming year, to help continue the growth and expansion of Slemish n tha Braid Credit Union in Ballymena and beyond,” said Tracey.
