Slemish Area WI Spring Meeting

THE spring area meeting of Slemish Area WIs attracted 160 members from nine institutes when it was held recently in Cullybackey High School.

Special guests included Ballymena Mayor, Ald. PJ McAvoy, Robert Young (acting principal of Cullybackey High) and his wife, guest speaker, Brian Rankin who spoke on his Ugandan orphanage visit, and Elizabeth Montgomery of Carrickmannon MRI Unit Support Fund who was presented with a cheque for £616, the proceeds of the WI Carol Service in St Patrick’s, Broughshane.

Northern Bank Perpetual Trophy (City of Belfast Autumn Fair) - Broughshane WI.

Festival of Food and Flowers awards: Eleanor Holding Salver - Edna McMaster, Broughshane WI. Exorna Tophy - Nine Marrs, Gracehill and Galgorm WI, Shilliday Salver - Annie Hamilton, Broughshane WI. Brownlow Trophy - Jean Cunningham, Gracehill & Galgorm WI. Broughshane Rose Bowl - Jean Cunningham, Gracehill & Galgorm WI.

Homecraft: Roe Valley Trophy for Full Circle hholders, Rosemaru Kennedy, Cullybackey WI. Thelma Golding Trophy for best individual item - Rosemary Kennedy, Cullybackey WI. Emily Blair Trophy for the disadvantage - Myrna Douglas, Cullybackey WI.

Three silver pins were awarded to Broughshane WI, one to Cullybackey and one to Glarryford and 16 craft ribbons were handed out.
