School council is seat of great ideas

Just some of the many reasons that the members of William Pinkerton Primary School’s Council gave for why other pupils should put their names forward to run for election.

The Ballymoney and Moyle Times sat in on a Council meeting in the staff room as councillors Joel (P7), Kyle (P6), Logan (P5), Alfie (P4) and Simon (P3) explained what they do.

“We help raise money for charity and we make sure 
that people use the playground equipment right,” said Logan.

The new playground 
equipment was researched, costed and ordered by the council members so they now feel great responsibility for it.

Alfie added: “We organised a Book Day. We had to read to pupils in other classes and we had different teachers reading to us.”

Joel said: “We get to help other people and help children in the school. We are organising a rota for litter picking around the school too.”

Kyle said: “It’s very good for our Maths too as we have 
to count all the charity 
money.”

“I enjoy the decisions 
and sitting at the meeting 
with the bigger boys,” said Simon.

One of the forthcoming events created by the school council is a pyjama day on June 29th for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.
