Sadness in Ballymoney at death of Mrs Mollie Holmes

There is sadness in Ballymoney today following the death of Mrs Mollie Holmes OBE.

101-year-old Mrs Holmes was fondly known as the ‘first lady of Ballymoney’ having been a former councillor and Mayor of Ballymoney Borough Council.

Current Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Darryl Wilson said: “I was deeply saddened today to learn of the passing of Mollie Holmes OBE.

“Mrs Holmes made an invaluable contribution to Ballymoney and the surrounding area by dedicating over 30 years to public service. Mrs Holmes also filled the position of chief citizen faithfully and honourably for a period of eight successive years which is an achievement in itself.

“The legacy left by Mrs Holmes has inspired me and will continue to inspire others for generations to come.

“Thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends at this sad time.”
