Role of east Antrim POWs outlined

A new museum is to highlight the role of prisoners of war from the east Antrim area.

Inver Museum, which opened in Larne at the weekend, contains a private collection of St John Ambulance memorabilia belonging to local woman Isabel Apsley.

Highlighting the role of the first aid organisation during the war years, the venue is also home to a wealth of detail on POWs who were incarcerated overseas during the Second World War.

The lists were compiled by Isabel during the course of her research using material filed in the public records office in Belfast.

They include the names and next of kin details of 44 men from the Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey areas, along with nine from Ballyclare.
