Bruce was a popular young man, with a rising reputation in the motorsport world.

Tributes have poured in for the local man, who was described as a “great racer and a great friend.”

Fellow racer Timmy Elwood said: “I will never forget the bright and brilliant friend he was and he will remain forever in my heart.”

Bruce had made steady progress in the sport in his first year of racing, winning the 125 class at the annual Skerries road races the previous Saturday.

He also achieved third place at the Cookstown 100 in April and fourth place at the Tandragee 100 in May.

Bruce, who worked to Kerr’s Tyres, is a former pupil of Dromore High School and Lisburn SERC.

Lisburn Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton said: “The loss of life is a tragedy and all the harder as Bruce was 20 years old and had his whole life ahead of him. It is simply a life cut short.”
