QC to advise council on Cliff court move

A QC will advise Larne Borough Council on its response to a proposed claim for judicial review submitted by The Cliff sporting complex.

As previously reported, the board which runs the borough’s only full-size 3G football pitch and associated facilities has warned the £2.5 million venture is “in real peril of closure” unless the council amends its lease to allow sub-lettering of Seacourt community centre, which is part of the premises. The board claims to have had “legitimate expectation” that the lease would be changed.

The council argues it owns the community centre and that it has been “taken over” by The Cliff.

The Cliff’s solicitors gave the council two weeks in which to approve an amendment satisfactory to their client, otherwise they would seek a judicial review. The deadline expired on March 30.

However, the council referred the legal correspondence first to its own solicitor and subsequently to senior counsel, resolving that there would be no further discussion on the matter until the QC was in attendance.
