PSNI anti-dissident war chest is £37.4m

AS £128m of cuts loom over Northern Ireland Justice Minister David Forde says an additional £37.4m has been promised to the PSNI to deal with dissident terrorist activity in 2010/11.

The new Justice Minister was asked by UUP MLA Tom Elliott what steps he had taken to ensure that the PSNI has sufficient resources to deal with dissident terrorist activity.

Mr Forde replied: "I have met the Chief Constable and discussed the PSNI's resource requirements in light of the security situation.

"The PSNI has been given a commitment that an additional 37.4m will be provided in 2010/11 specifically to deal with dissident terrorist activity.

"Where there is a clear case for further resource I will discuss the matter with the Minister for Finance and Personnel in the first instance."
