Portadown waste management facility fined £5,000 for waste offences
Portadown Recycling and Skip Hire Ltd, of Brownstown Business Park, Portadown pleaded guilty to a failure to prevent another person committing waste offences and failing to complete waste documentation in respect to the illegal disposal of recyclable plastic waste at a farm at 90 Moira Road, Nutts Corner, Crumlin, Co Antrim.
When officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) visited the site in November 2013, they found approximately 280 tonnes of commercially processed, and potentially recyclable, plastic waste partially buried in a trench on farmland. Further investigation found the waste - baled, loose and bags of shredded plastics - had originated from Portadown Recycling and Skip Hire Ltd.

Officers of the NIEA repeatedly invited the company to attend for interview under caution to give explanation in relation to these matters, however the company did not avail of these opportunities.
