Pomeroy scouts are best in NI

A patrol from 1st Pomeroy Scouts recently won the Northern Ireland Camp Challenge held at the Northern Ireland Scout Centre, Crawfordsburn, Co. Down from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th September.

They were among seven patrols from across Northern Ireland competing for the John Savage Trophy over the weekend and had to complete a number of challenges which tested their scout skills and camping standards.

Tasks included setting up camp, building pioneering gadgets such as a table, dresser and gate way, competing against the other patrols across 14 Saturday afternoon challenges (which they won overall), cooking a three course meal on an open fire on the Saturday evening, competing against the other patrols in the Sunday morning ballista challenge (which they won), taking camp down and doing all cooking for themselves through the weekend.

Qualification for the competition was gained by winning the Co. Tyrone County Flag back in June and this is the first time a patrol from Pomeroy has won the Northern Ireland Camp Challenge. Congratulations goes to the patrol whose hard work and enthusiasm throughout the weekend paid off by taking the trophy home to Pomeroy.

Scouts meet weekly on Monday evenings in Pomeroy Presbyterian Church Hall from 7 to 8:30pm, all new members welcome.
