DUP launch petition

STARTING this week members of the DUP will be collecting signatures online and door-to-door in a bid to improve the visual amenity of the A5 corridor.

According to Alderman Gary Middleton, the DUP has set up a petition online and will be canvassing for support for works to be carried out along the arterial route, especially in light of the UK City of Culture next year and the need to present the best face of the north west to visitors.

“Taking in the villages of Newbuilding, Magheramason and Prehen as well as areas of Londonderry city itself, members of the political party will be garnering support for an improvement scheme to revamp the visual amenity of the approach road to the city coming from the Strabane direction,” said Alderman Middleton.

“There are a number of areas that we have identified that need improvment and members of the communities involved have been telling us that enough is enough and they want something done to improve these unsightly places. The road in places is in poor condtition and we feel there is a lack of vision by government and by some private individuals when it comes to working together to tidy up the general appearance of the district,” the alderman said.
