Police target 'hate' groups on internet

THE police have urged Larne people to think twice before signing up to internet-based campaigns.

Last week, cruel hoaxers brought new agony to the heartbroken family of Graeme Nixon, on the eve of his funeral nearly three weeks after he went missing while picking whelks on Larne Lough.

A "hate" page on the social networking site facebook claimed a shop owner had refused to refund Graeme's partner Catriona Dobbin for a wedding dress.

By the time police and members of the Nixon and Dobbin families stepped in to reject the claim, 166 people had signed up.

The sick stunt follows an attempt to boycott a business where, it was wrongly alleged, permission had not been granted for display of a poster for a fundraiser because it promoted the Help The Heroes appeal.
