Post Office reveals how it had to ‘swiftly’ find new premises in NI town at ‘short notice’

A Portadown Post Office has described how it has sought to ‘swiftly identify’ new premises at ‘short notice’.

The Post Office at High Street Mall was closed last week (Friday August 21) as the building is due to be demolished ahead of the new Lidl store being built.

In a statement, the Post Office said it is the process of relocating to new premises at Magowan West Shopping Centre, 23 West Street, Portadown.

A spokesperson said: “The current branch location at Unit 34, High Street Mall, Portadown, Craigavon, BT62 1HX has unfortunately been withdrawn for Post Office use at short notice and the building is to be demolished.

“We have therefore had to swiftly identify an alternative location to continue to offer Post Office services to the local community.

“The Postmaster has identified an opportunity to move the branch into a nearby premises with stationery and giftware also on site. Our Postmaster firmly believes that the move will help secure continued access to Post Office services locally, as well as supporting the viability of their business.”

Post Office services will be provided from three serving positions: one screened and two open plan counters. The branch will be open Monday to Friday: 9am – 5.30pm and Saturday 9am – 12.30pm. The new premises will open on September 2.

During the temporary closure of Portadown Post Office, alternative Post Offices include:  Woodside, 139 Garvaghey Road, Portadown BT62 1EH; Brownstown Road, 11 Brownstown Road, Portadown, BT62 4EB; Killycomain, 23-25 Gilford Road, Portadown, BT63 5EF

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the re-opening. We are looking for feedback about accessibility, local community issues and anything that we can do to make life easier for our customers.

The consultation will close on 8 October 2020. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 325715.
