Carrick Rangers pay tribute after death of Steel & Sons Cup winning player Arthur ‘Corky’ Curtis

Former footballer Arthur Curtis has been remembered for his lifelong commitment to Carrick Rangers both as a player and a supporter.

A Steel & Sons Cup winner in 1967, Mr Curtis, who died on Saturday past, continued to follow the Taylor’s Avenue club after he retired from playing.

Paying tribute in a statement, the club said: “Carrick Rangers Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Arthur Curtis, affectionately known as Corky.

"Part of our Steel & Sons Cup winning team in 1967, Corky remained an ardent supporter of the club after his playing days, travelling up and down the country to support the 'Gers home and away.

A family notice on the Funeral Times website said William Arthur (Corky) Curtis passed away on October 21 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.

The notice continued: “Husband of the late Hilary. Loving and devoted father to Tracy and Andrew. Proud granda to Chantelle and great-grandfather to Axel. Dear brother to Leslie and family circle.

“Will be loved and sorely missed by the entire family circle. Never selfish, always kind, these are the memories he left behind.”

A service of thanksgiving for Arthur’s life will be held in S & J Irvine’s Funeral Home, 31-35 Irish Quarter South, Carrickfergus, this Thursday (October 26) at 1.30 pm and afterwards to Victoria Cemetery.

Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, are invited to Marie Curie Nurses c/o S & J Irvine at the above address.
