Dedication to his profession was never in question, as the reams of material contained in the archives of the Derry Journal will now show forever.

As well as a lifetime of service to the local press Frank Curran also contributed regularly to BBC broadcasts as well as producing several books of note.

With him passes an encylopedic knowledge of this place, its people and events, often harnessed as a reference point for reporters parachuted in to cover stories from here.

In a career that effortlessly spanned the diverse fields of politics and sport in equally expert measure, Mr Curran was in many ways a trailblazer for those in this city who follwed in his journalistic footsteps. It is incumbent on all those who came after Frank to attempt to maintain the standards he set.

We hope that the kind words and memories that have come from all quarters following his passing will be of some comfort to his family in the time to come.
