Paddle and camp out on River Bann for UCF

A fleet of canoes will take to the River Bann for the fun two day charity challenge on Saturday and Sunday, May 26-27.

Adventurous participants will enjoy canoeing 58km downstream as far as Coleraine, paddling for around five hours per day, with wild camping overnight on the banks of the River Bann.

Lisa McBride (24), took part in last year’s event with a group of colleagues from First Trust Bank and loved every minute of it! Lisa said: “You don’t have to be super fit to do it - we had three girls and three guys in our party, and I think the girls got away with doing a little less work! Camping was great fun too and because the event is over two days it’s also very relaxing.

“The event is a great team-building exercise and we all felt a feel good factor after spending our weekend helping such a worthwhile cause. I would recommend anyone to give it a go.”

Sarah Atcheson, from UCF, said, “This is a unique and wonderful way to experience beautiful Irish countryside and meet new people, while raising funds for local people who have been affected by cancer.

“No previous canoeing experience is necessary as training will be provided and participants will be under the supervision of qualified staff at all times.

“We understand that the current economic climate can make fundraising challenging, however our experienced staff are on hand to help you, if you need additional support.

While participants will be paddling in two man Canadian canoes, you do not have to register as a team to take part. If you would like to take part in UCF’s ‘Paddle the Bann’ challenge it’s £25 to register and participants are asked to raise a minimum of £225 in sponsorship. Tents, camping equipment and Canadian canoes are included.”
