Outdoor ‘trim trail’ equipment proposed

Plans for outdoor ‘trim trail’ exercise equipment in the area around Carrickfergus Amphitheatre have been outlined to local councillors.

The proposals, which would see equipment sited around the leisure centre pond area, Shaftesbury Park and beside the synthetic pitch, were detailed at Monday night’s meeting of the Development Services committee.

Some £28,000 has been allocated in the capital expenditure budget for the equipment.

However, Councillor Billy Hamilton cautioned that the local authority must commit to maintain the equipment to prevent the pieces falling into disuse and disrepair.

“We had some similar equipment to this at the leisure centre a good few years ago and people only used it for the first couple of weeks,” he said.

Alderman Billy Ashe suggested that classes could be held to encourage the use of the equipment.
