New heating for Craigavon homes

EIGHTY Housing Executive homes in the Ardowen area of Craigavon are having new heating systems installed in their homes.

The contract valued at almost 400,000 is being carried out by HEAT Ltd, the Housing Executive’s contractor for this type of work in the South Area. The homes will have gas central heating systems installed over a 10 week period.

Housing Executive District Manager Colin Ross described the scheme as a major boost for Craigavon and a step towards the Housing Executive’s goal to improve energy efficiency in homes across Northern Ireland.

He commented: “We are delighted this scheme has been given the go-ahead as part of the extra funding for social housing announced by the Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie.

“As the Home Energy Conservation Authority for Northern Ireland, the Housing Executive is committed to improving energy efficiency in both social and private sector housing and is working with partner organisations in a wide range of projects.

"Over recent years we have been replacing solid fuel room heaters and economy 7, I am delighted that our tenants will benefit from an efficient, cleaner heating system.

“This investment also demonstrates the organisations commitment to providing modern, comfortable homes for its tenants and to help address fuel poverty.

“We have been working closely with our heating contractor HEAT to ensure our tenants involved in these schemes were fully consulted. I am confident the work will be carried out to a very high standard with as little disruption as possible for our tenants. This significant investment will add to the quality of accommodation we can provide in Craigavon.”

Eddie Rooney, Chairperson of the Monbrief Community Association has welcomed the start of the scheme: “The Community Association welcomes this investment by the Housing Executive in Ardowen. It is great news that 80 tenants will have new energy efficient heating systems installed in their homes. We will continue to work with the local office and the contractor to ensure the work is completed satisfactorily and that any issues which arise are resolved.”
