National Trust defends golf stance

A NATIONAL Trust chief has defended their opposition to plans for a multi-million pounds hotel and golf course development near the Giant’s Causeway.

Graham Thompson was speaking at a meeting with Moyle councillors when Ulster Unionist representative Willie Graham alleged people were “up in arms” over the Trust opposition to the golf plans.

Mr Thompson said there are many people who are supportive of the Trust’s position but he said he could not comment in depth about the case as it is due for discussion soon.

Cllr Graham expressed strong points of view on the subject and said a golf course would be a big boost to the area.

Graham Thompson said it is important the world heritage site at the Giant’s Causeway is not spoiled by “inappropriate development”.
