Motorcyclist banned for doing 117mph on the motorway

A motorcyclist who did 117mph on the motorway was banned from driving for three months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Francis Anthony Hogan, Derrycor Lane, Derrycor, was also fined £200 for excess speed on August 16.

He was ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard he was caught riding at 117mph on the motorway between Moira and Lurgan.

His solicitor said he had been returning from the races at Dundrod and as he neared the exit slip road he ‘opened her up’.

He explained that the defendant’s wife had a bowel condition which would need surgery in November.

He had come out of work and lived in the countryside so his licence was important to him.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said this was not just over the ‘ton’ but considerably in excess of that speed although he had every sympathy with the family circumstances.
