Work is ongoing to establish ‘a sustainable model of community development’ in Dunclug, a Council committee has been told.

A Ballymena Council-led six months’ intervention was established last summer to consider the development of such a model for the estate.

Councillors were informed in an update, last Monday night, that Council enlisted Dunclug Partnership to assist in the development of the model and also that the programme manager had obtained a further three months funding from Lloyds Foundation to allow the continuation of the partnership until March.

“From the consultations, it was recognised that there has been an improvement in the Dunclug area through the work of the Partnership, although some of the key issues continue to remain,” an officer told the committee which went on to approve a recommendation that “Council will continue to play its role in providing support to the implementation of any new model”.

Cllr Jayne Dunlop commented: “We should push on as fast as we can to see if we can deliver positive actions. It is really good to see Council taking the stand and doing something”.
